Kano State governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf said he wouldn’t back down in the legal tangle that has overshadow his reinstatement of Sanusi Lamido as the Emir of Kano.
A Federal High Court sitting in Kano Thursday nullified the reemergence of Sanusi Lamido as Emir of Kano based a suit filed by a title holder in Kano emirate, Aminu Dan’agundi, challenging the Kano State Emirate Council (Repeal) Law, 2024 passed by the Kano House of Assembly and signed into law by governor Yusuf . The law repealed the Kano State Emirate Council Law 2019, which created four new emirates of Bichi, Rano, Gaya and Karaye in addition to the Kano Emirate and subsequently led to the dethronement of Lamido Sanusi.
Reacting to the judgement Saturday governor Yusuf speaking through Sanusi Bature who is spokesperson to the Kano State government, the Kano Emirship tussle would be a fight to finish.
“For us, it’s a fight to finish because the Governor has the right to dethrone Emir, to reappoint Emir, to appoint a new emir or reinstate,” said Bature on Arise TV.
“He has the constitutional right and nobody can take that from him. Even if it will take us 100 years the governor has that exclusive right to depose or appoint a new emir.”
He added that Ado Bayero who had stayed put in the Palace would be treated kindly.
“Aminu Bayero is an indigene of Kano, well respected and we don’t want anything to happen to him. He is not under any pressure to leave the state. As a very important personality, he has the right to move anywhere.
“The police have taken sides at the moment and they seem not to be taking orders from the Governor.
“First of all, when Aminu arrived at midnight at a time when he and his family vacated the main palace, they took all their belongings from the main palace but he was convinced by some unpatriotic politicians to return to Kano and give a fight.”
