Tobi Amusan recovered from her minor illness to lead the Nigerian women 4x100m to gold at the CAA African Championships in Douala, Cameroon Monday.
The world record holder in the 100mh had taken ill shortly after arriving in Cameroon and she could not feature in her event.
But she did an excellent job of anchoring the relay after Justina Tiana Eyakpobeyan had started and made a good run for Tima Godbless to take sizeable lead, Olayinka Olajide sustained the momentum before Amusan sealed victory for Nigeria with a time of 42.72secs.
Amusan had tendered a medical report which enabled her to run race, unlike Favour Ofili and Rosemary Chukwuma who pulled out from the 100m semifinal without the knowledge of the technical committee.
In the men’s 4x100m relay final, Nigeria finished second behind Ghana.
Kanyinsola Ajayi gave Ushoritse Itshekiri, who handed baton to Alaba Akintola. Godson Brume ran the last leg.
