The police in Rivers State, said an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), which went off near the Presidential Hotel Port Harcourt last Tuesday, is now under investigation.
Rivers State governor Siminalayi Fubara had alleged that the IED explosion was meant to create pandemonium in the State by those clamouring for a state of emergency to be declared in the in Rivers.
He added that the hands of the man working on the explosives was blown off before he could set it off in the Hotel where a Senate delegation led by Orji Uzor Kalu were holding a meeting.
Rivers State Police Command, spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko said in a statement in Port Harcourt the incident was under review.
“Efforts are being made to gather crucial information and shed light to this situation,”
“We thank the public for providing information, pictures, and videos to assist our ongoing investigation.
“Anyone who sees any suspicious object should evacuate the area immediately and promptly notify the police,” she added.
