Ghanaian Chef Ebenezer Smith who claimed to have broken the Guinness World and collected about N35m form a sponsor has been arrested and detained in Accra.
Smith claimed to have clocked 820 hours 25 minutes longest cooking record from February 1 to March 6 2024 and presented a Guinness World Record certificate Tuesday July 2 to reinforce his bragging rights.
But things took a twist as GWR organisers disowned the Certificate and denied he broke the World longest cooking record.
His sponsor for his cooking marathon Amadia Shopping Mall, invited the police and he subsequently arrested and booked for fraud.
Speaking on the development GWR PR executive Alina Polianskaya told BBC: “No, this is not true at all. He does not hold the GWR title, and that is not our certificate.
“The current and true record holder is: The longest cooking marathon (individual) is 119hr 57 min 16 sec and was achieved by Alan Fisher (Ireland) in Matsue, Shimane, Japan, from 28 September to 3 October 2023.
