England came from behind to beat Netherlands 2-1 to book a place in the final of Euro Championship. They play against Spain on Sunday.
It is the first major final for the Three Lions since 1966 when they won the World Cup on home soil.
Netherlands had gone ahead with a brilliant strike by Xavi Simons, but England responded when Harry Kane won a controversial penalty in the first-half.
Kane got a shot away in the box and was then caught by Denzel Dumfries, though the referee waved away the appeals as the striker rolled around in pain. A VAR review led to the referee consulting the pitchside monitor, and he returned to point to the spot.
In second Gareth Southgate introduced Ollie Watkins and Cole Palmer in place Kane and Phil Foden and it proved to be a rewarding change for England.
Watkins revealed that as they were being introduced he told Cole Palmer, he was going to set him up for a goal and that was exactly what the Chelsea man did in the 90th minute for Watkins to shoot pass Netherlands keeper Bart Verbruggen.
“I swear on my life, I swear on my kids’ life, I said to Cole Palmer, we’re coming on and you’re going to set me up today. And that’s why I was so happy.
“I knew as soon as he got the ball he was going to play me and then you’ve got to be greedy: touch and finish. And when I seen it go in the bottom corner… oh my life. Best feeling ever.
“Unbelievable. I’ve been waiting for that moment for weeks. It’s taken a lot of hard work to get where I am today, grateful that I got the opportunity and I grabbed it with both hands. I’m delighted.”
Kane said he was pleased with Watkins goal saying every Engsl player was ready to deliver whenever called upon.
“You might get five minutes, you might get one minute, but you can make the difference, you can win us the tournament.
“Ollie’s been waiting, he’s been patient. What a finish. I’m so happy for it, he deserves it.”
