England coach Gareth Southgate said was hard losing his second Euro Championship final after Spain ran away with the title with a 2-1 in Berlin, Germany.
Spain dominated the game and more shots at goal. Nico Williams gave Spain the lead 69 seconds into the second half, while substitute Cole Palmer equalised in the 73rd minute before Mikel Ozaryabal bundle in the winning goal in the 86th minute. Declan Rice and Marc Guehi went close with headers in added-time.
“To get to another final… it was a privilege to have the opportunity. But to come up short is hard at the moment.”
Under Southgate, England have reached back-to-back European finals as well as the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup and the last eight of the 2022 World Cup.
He said he would not rush to take a decision on whether to quit.
“Now is not the time for me to speak about that. I need to talk to the right people and give myself a bit of time.”
Meanwhile, former defender Rio Ferdinand says Southgate “has to take some stick” for England’s defeats in the finals.
“You have to look at what talent pool we have and I don’t feel like we are putting them in the best position possible,” added Ferdinand. With BBC reports
