Spain and Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella could not help but mock Garry Neville after La Roja beat the Three Lions of England 2-1 to lift the Euro Championship title Sunday in Berlin, Germany.
Cucurella was one of the outstanding performances in the Spanish side that won all seven games of the tournament. But during the group games of the tournament Neville, a former Manchester United defender had singled out Cucurella for criticism saying he was the weak link of the team.
“He’s not been convincing at Chelsea, he’s played a few games towards the end of the season, he’s aggressive, he’s tenacious, he’s a busy little full-back.
“That price tag still, to be fair, astounds everybody I think to this day. The Spanish defence has got a lot of experience now but there’s something just missing from Spain that makes you feel like they’re going to go all the way.
“And I have to say, him [Cucurella] being at left-back probably is another example of why we think that.”
But Cucurella remembered those words when he lifted the trophy on Sunday, he posted on his Instagram “We went all the way Gary. Thanks for your support.”
