The All-Progressives Congress has removed Ali Ndume as Chief Whip of the Senate. Tahir Mungono (Borno North) has been appointed to take his place.
A letter from the APC national headquarters complaining about the utterances of Senator Ndume on the leadership of President Bola Tinubu was read on the floor of the Senate Wednesday by Senate president Godswill Akpabio, after which APC caucus members took a voice vote to remove Senator Ndume representing Borno South.
In the letter signed by Abdulahi Ganduje national chairman of the APC, Ndume was asked to resign from the party and join the opposition party of his choice. He also lost the position he held as vice chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations.
Senator Ndume who was not present during the session had voiced out his concern about the President Tinubu’s handling of insecurity and his economic policies, which has impoverished Nigerians. Last week Friday he appeared on Arise TV to make scathing remarks on the direction President Tinubu was taking the country.
“Tinubu’s government is government is going down. it is “run by kakistocrats”.
“The government is also populated by kleptocrats, but unfortunately that is not what the president is up to; he really meant renewed hope, but you can only do that when you have people around you that are on the same type of thinking,” he said in the interview on Arise.
“I’m the chief whip, and if the chief whip can’t have access to the president, the new senators won’t have access either.
“The president needs people who will realise his dream and tell him when something is wrong,” he added.
