Former Nigeria Football Federation president, Amaju Pinnick said Super Eagles top striker Victor Osimhen has regretted his outburst against former Super Eagles coach, Finidi George.
In the wake of the team’s dismal back-to-back outing in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic, Osimhen acting on information from a meeting between Finidi and the NFF had lashed out at the former Super Eagles winger cursing and swearing. Finidi insisted that he never said those words accusing Osimhen of lacking patriotism ascribed to him.
Nigerian football fans did not take kindly to the disrespect of Finidi, a member of the golden generation of Super Eagles that made Nigeria’s debut at the World Cup in 1994 and also won the African Cup of Nations that same year.
“That rant was so unfortunate,” said Amaju during a chat Wednesday on Arise TV.
” I put a call through to Osimhen and I made him understand that I didn’t like what he did, and he spoke to me with remorse.
“And I told him to channel his remorse to the appropriate quarters.”
Amaju stated that Osimhen had always been a humble lad but couldn’t understand why the outpouring of venom on his Instagram post back in April.
“Osimhen has always come to me, we discovered him during my first tenure. In fact, that was the first trophy I won as the NFF president when he led us to Chile, and he was the highest goal scorer.
“I don’t know what went wrong. It was just a moment of madness so to speak. But that is not the Osimhen that I know.
“Osimhen comes to me as a very humble boy, and we have maintained that relationship.”
