Nigerian athletes have arrived in Paris, France where the events of the 33rd Olympics will unfold Friday July 26.
The Nigerian contingent has been in Germany for intense training ahead of the Games. The second batch of athletes are expected to leave today.
World record holder in the women’s 100mh Tobi Amusan will be Nigeria’s flag bearer in the opening ceremony of the Games, she is seeking to win her first Olympics medal. She is one of Nigeria’s brightest hopes for a gold medal. She narrowly missed the podium at the 2020 Games in Japan, before she went on to shock the world with her 12.12 seconds world record run at the World Championships in Oregon USA, 2021.
“I’m not under any pressure. For me it is one race at a time and like always I’m ready to compete,” she said before jetting out with the rest of the Nigeria athletics team.
Meanwhile the Nigeria Olympic Committee has named badminton player Anuoluawapo Opeyori as team captain to the Games.
