Organisers of the annual Above 50 football championship have announced a two week extension of registration deadline for teams that want to take part in the championship.
Disclosing this, Chairman of the Main Organising Committee of the tournament meant for ex- national and international team players and senior citizens, Dr. Rafiu Ladipo explained that following appeals from teams that want to be part of the championship, the organisers decided to extend the deadline by two weeks but noted that there won’t be any further extension after the two weeks grace period.
” As you’re aware, registration for the championship is supposed to have ended on Tuesday, July, 23 but following appeals by some teams, the Main Organising Committee decided to extend the registration deadline by two weeks and we hope that teams that are interested in being part of the money spinning championship will meet that deadline because after the two weeks grace period there won’t be further extension”, he stressed
He listed teams that have registered for the tournament to include; Defending champion, Ajegunle Above 50, runners- up Abeokuta, Itire/ Ikate 1 and Itire/ Ikate 2.
Others are; Surulere, Badagry, Love Garden and Ipokia/Idiroko Above 50 Football Club.

Meanwhile, the organisers said that plans have been concluded for the unveiling of Above 50 Mini-Olympics Logo to be held on Sunday, July, 28,2024 at Ostra Hotel Alausa Ikeja.
They disclosed that the President of Above 50 Football Championship who also doubles as the President of Ikeja Chamber of Commerce Industry and Agriculture, Ambassador Dr. Edward Olutoke has approved that other games should be organised to give senior citizens opportunity of relaxing, networking and competing among themselves in a relaxed atmosphere.
According to the programme of the unveiling ceremony, it will be witnessed by some former Nigerian international athletes such as Olympic gold medalist, Chioma Ajunwa, Peter Rufai and Mutui Adepoju amongst others.
Games that are expected to feature at the Mini-Olympics includes handball boxing, table tennis and Ayo Olopon ( Traditional Game) amongst others.
