Nigeria’s Super Falcons will attempt to revive their Paris 2024 Olympics campaign when they tackle world champions Spain on Sunday with Asisat Oshoala and Rasheedat Ajibade expected to lead the attack.
Oshoala, before moving to the USA this year, played for Barcelona Ladies, while Ajibade is still on the books of Atletico Madrid, and Spain coach Montserrat Tomé believes this should be a concern for her team.
The Super Falcons lost to Brazil 1-0 in a game they could have won but missed goal scoring opportunities. Spain beat former Olympic champions Japan in their opening game to have a strong footing in group C.
“Nigeria are a physically very strong rival, who will take everything to individual and physical duels. It will be very different from Japan because they will let us play less.
“We have studied them well and I would highlight that they play a lot on the left side, where there is an Ajibade that we know well, and that they have a goalkeeper, Nnadozie, who has a fairly long serve and is quite good,” Tome said ahead of the game.
The game will be first time both teams are playing and according to Ajibade, the Super Falcons are ready and would play with determination to get a good result from Spain.
“We missed quite a few chances against Brazil, and they took their chance. We will do our best to take our chances against Spain on Sunday,” Ajibade told thenff.com.
