Tennis greats Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic will meet in round two of the Paris 2024 Olympics men’s tennis singles.
Nadal who won 22 grand slams and two Olympic gold medals in Beijing 2008 and Rio 2016 made a bright start to his campaign in Paris 2024 with a win a 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 win over Hungary’s Marton Fucsovics.
Djokovic with 24 grand slam and still searching for his first Olympics gold medal beat Australia’s Matthew Ebden 6-0, 6-1 to set up a matchup that hasn’t been played before a quarterfinal in 15 years.
The only other time the two met before the final eight of a tournament, not counting round robins, was the 2009 Davis Cup. Usually, their high seeds make it impossible for them to meet in the earlier rounds, but Nadal’s recent injuries left him unseeded for the tournament, leaving him open for the draw to match him up against his Serbian counterpart.
