Ademola Lookman said Wednesday night’s UEFA Super Cup clash against Real Madrid is a game he is looking forward to playing and making a difference.
Lookman scored a hattrick in Atalanta’s shock win over Bayer Leverkusen in the 2024 Europa League final. The Super Eagles striker is expected to be in action at the National Stadium in Warsaw, Poland on Wednesday 19.00 GMT.
“I think tomorrow night is a different occasion. Playing in the Super Cup tomorrow is a different night. So, I’m excited, happy to be involved, and looking forward to it,” Lookman said ahead of the game.
“It’s not just me, but I think the whole squad is excited about the occasion. We deserve to be here through our hard work and perseverance. Tomorrow night is another chance to show that.”
Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini, though facing some injury concerns, said his side will rise to the challenge of playing against the European Champions.
“Atalanta are not struggling. We are here to play an incredibly prestigious game with our usual enthusiasm and desire to amaze,” said Gasperini.
“We are playing against the most successful club in the world, we’ll give it all our pride to try and play a great game.
“Obviously, you want to reach this event at the top of your capabilities, but I have to say often when we had big matches, like the trip to Liverpool or elsewhere, we were missing some key players there too. I always asked the lads to give their all, without worrying about who was or wasn’t there.”
