Coach Janne Andersson has confirmed he is in talks with the Nigeria Football Federation to take up the Super Eagles job.
The 61-year-old, Andersson who guided his home country Sweden to the quarterfinals of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, was reported to have signed a deal with the NFF, but the nation’s soccer ruling house denied during the week that there was no such deal.
But speaking during an interview with Swedish newspaper Expressen, Mr. Andersson said: “I can confirm that I have had a dialogue with the Nigeria Football Federation.
“It’s a huge footballing nation, so I’m extremely flattered to be in the running to be their next national team coach. Dialogue is ongoing, and I don’t really want to say more than that. I have been in this industry for so long and know that things can happen in different ways. So we’ll see what happens in the future.”
The Super Eagles will tackle Benin Republic’s Cheetahs September 7 in Uyo in the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifier.
