Divine Ikubor a.k.a Rema has been honoured by the Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, for promoting the Benin Kingdom and Edo State with his music recognised worldwide.
The ‘Calm Down’ crooner who has grossed $300m from worldwide streaming of his music was presented with a royal plaque by the monarch Thursday in Benin City.
Rema and the Edo State governor Godwin Obaseki had earlier performed the groundbreaking ceremony of the Edo Arena, which the governor said would be renamed Rema Dome in recognition of his contributions to music.
Rema, who was making a grand home coming after his worldwide exploits, said he was excited with the recognition.
“I am happy to be here. I thank Edo people for their prayers and support. I am proud of the state, especially the growth recorded so far. I am proud of the togetherness, passion and zeal to make it greater.
“I am proud of the youths and ready to take part in anything that will give a drive to the youths, strengthen and motivate them. This is a blessing, and I will see to it that this project is finished well.”
