Victor Osimhen was welcomed to Turkey by a multitude of fans as he touched down at Istanbul Airport to begin a season loan spell with Galatasaray.
The Super Eagles player saw two high profile transfer deals collapsed on deadline day, and having been frozen out from the first team by Napoli coach Antonio Conte, Osimhen faced a bleak season until the Gala deal came along on Monday.
He landed at Istanbul Airport to chants by fans and Osimhen said he was relived to join the Turkish league giants where former Napoli teammate Dries Mertens plays his football.
“The atmosphere is incredible. It’s great to be here and to see Mertens again. I spoke to him before coming here,” Osimhen said, via Corriere dello Sport.Meanwhile,
Osimhen is reported to have parted ways with his agent Roberto Calenda, following his botched summer transfer moves. The African Footballer of the Year was linked to several clubs after his 2023 expolits with Napoli, but he couldn’t clinch any deal with any of those.
Osimhen is said to be angry Calenda made him sign a deal that tied him to Napoli last year and it was the €130 million release clause inserted into the deal that dissuaded clubs like Arsenal, Paris St Germain.
The cracks in their relationship began to surface when Calenda, who had been steadfast in defending Osimhen’s position, was unable to secure a move to Chelsea or Al Ahli, despite intense speculation.
