Silverbird Group chairman Ben Murray-Bruce said he would aim to bring the Miss Universe beauty pageant back to Nigeria in 2025.
Nigeria was to host the 2002 edition after Agbani Darego was crowned Miss Universe in 2001. But just when the contestants and delegates arrived in Abuja from all parts of the world, Islamic fundamentalists protested over the hosting of the pageant in Nigeria, it was a near catastrophe, the visitors, some who were coming to Nigeria for the first time retreated to London where the event was held.
Writing on his X page Senator Ben Murray Bruce said: “We’ve learned from the pas…those who remember our attempt to host Miss World in Nigeria in 2002 know the challenges we faced.
“But let me make this clear: what happened then will not repeat itself. Nigeria is set to reclaim its rightful place on the global stage, and there isn’t a force on earth that can stand in our way.”
He added that: “If Chidimma Adetshina clinches the @MissUniverse crown, rest assured, The Silverbird Group will spare no expense or effort to bring the next Miss Universe pageant to Nigeria in 2025.”
