Delta State government and the local organising committee of the 8th National Youth Games said the 2024 edition which runs from September 9-19 will be a bigger and better organised event. The Opening ceremony is billed for Wednesday.
After months of preparations, the Delta State government of Hon. Sheriff Oborevwore, says it is fully ready to pull out all the stops to ensure that all the visiting delegations have a great time in Asaba, the State capital. Delta State is in the second year of hosting the NYG, which the State’s athletes have dominated since inception.
Chairman of the Local Organising committee (LOC), Chief Solomon Ogba told journalists that all logistics needed to host a successful event had been put in place.
Ogba, a former Commissioner for Sports in Delta State, and two-time President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) said that this year’s edition of the National Youth Games would be a talking point in the history of Nigeria sports.
Meanwhile, the Stephen Keshi Stadium, which is the main venue for the Games is now wearing a new look, even as the organisers put in new facilities to add colour to the Games. From the mainbowl of Stephen Keshi Stadium, to the swimming pool, and the two indoor sports halls, demonstrates the readiness of the State to make a good show of the NYG.
