Cheetahs of Benin Republic players are optimistic their country can pull off another upset win against the Super Eagles again on Saturday in 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifiers in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
The Super Eagles collapsed to a 2-1 loss to the Cheetahs in a World Cup qualifying match back in June in Cote d’Ivoire. Striker Junior Olaitan said Coach Gernot Rohr’s knowledge of the Super Eagles players was a factor and that could be the same story on Saturday.
“The team’s aim is to get the three maximum points in Nigeria. There is no doubt that it will be a tough game, but we are prepared for what the Super Eagles will throw at us,” Olaitan said.
“We will build on the confidence on the victory in Abidjan in the last game between the two countries.
“To our advantage, we have a coach who know the strength and weakness of Super Eagles players.”
Also speaking ahead of the match, Steve Mounie who scored the winning goal against the Super Eagles in Cote d’Ivoire added: “The spirit we have in the team now, we don’t give up.
“We will try to fight together on the pitch, and that will be important Saturday.
“It doesn’t matter who scores or makes the assist, the most important thing is to get a result.”
