Chidimma Adetshina has dismissed insinuations that she was unduly crowned Miss Universe Nigeria recently in Lagos.
Adetshina was a last minute invite to participate in the pageant organised by the Silverbird Group, after she was forced out of the Miss South Africa contest. Some observers opined that she won Miss Universe Nigeria out sympathy.
But she claimed that it was her hard work that fetched her the crown and not pity.
“A lot of people felt like it was a pity win. I don’t think so. I feel like I really worked so hard, coming from the South Africa journey. We spent like 10 weeks, camp, going through the whole journey, she said in an interview with Arise TV.
“It might have been a slight difference compared to everybody else, but if you have to look at the journey that we have all been through, I feel like I really had the same experience with other contestants.”
Speaking on her preparedness for the Miss Universe contest billed for Mexico in November, Adetshina added.
“I’ve noticed the nice criticism where people are always telling me ‘listen, these are things that you need to work on’ and I feel like it’s really a good thing that I get this criticism from people on the outside because at the end of the day, they are the ones that are watching me and I only want to provide the best, not only for myself but for my country as well. So,
“I have to work on things like my walk, my presence, how I am going to present the country really well on that stage. So, I am just trying to gather everything together.”
