Rwanda’s Amavubis survived a 90-minute constant bombardment from the Super Eagles in their African Cup of Nations qualifiers played at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.
Rwandan football fans including President Paul Kegame were kept on the edge of their seats as the Super Eagles dominated the game but for the heroics of goalkeeper Ntwari Fiacrer , who made save after save, denying Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen who came into for Victor Boniface at the break. Boniface agonisingly grazed the bar with head in the first half.
What was thought would be Super Eagles first goal was cruelly chalked off by the centre referee in the 21st minute after Lookman bundled in a long throw from Ola Aina.
In the second half the Super Eagles dominated play with Wilfred Ndidi and Dele Bashiru having a field day in the middle, but the Rwadans deafened well and made several interceptions. In the 72nd minute Lookman unleashed a ferocious shot which Ntwari parried into the corner, he needed treatment for a strained shoulder. He also denied Osimhen on the line after he connected well with a cross from Ola Aina.
Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali also made some good saves as Rwanda ventured forward looking for a breakthrough.
The Super Eagles top the group D log with four points. Their next game would be against Libya in October.
