Treasure Omosivwe a bright prospect in Nigeria women high jump said her aim is to win gold for Edo State at the athletics event of the National Youth Games, which begins today in Asaba, Delta State.
Omosivwe is a product of the Princess Mabel Madojiemu Athletics Championships. Last year she jumped 1.65m to finish fourth in the event. At the school sports selection trials held in August in Ibadan, she was the sole competitor on ground for the high jump, however, she managed a second placing in the long jump.
“I am ready for the NYG this year and my aim is to win the gold,” said 15-years-old Omosivwe.
“Last year I competed with much older athletes and as if that was not enough I came in third position, but I was denied the bronze.
“But this time around I have trained very hard and looking forward to compete.”
Edo State athletics coach Mutiu Oluwa backed the youth athlete to do well.
“She is one of our future hopes in the women’s high jump and she has been consistent with her performance.
“In Edo we pride ourselves in grassroots development of athletes, it is not about coming to the NYG to win with overaged athletes.”
