Edo State’s fortunes are looking bright as the National Youth Games events unfolded Friday.
Esther Amarachi Chijioke set the ball rolling for Edo medals haul with a hat-trick of gold medal in the girls weightlifting event. She won in the 45k snatch and clean and jerk also in gold in the 40kg.
Also in the 50kg karate contest Desmond Izengbuwa won gold.
However, in the boys football event Edo went into the against their Delta counterparts, but they ultimately succumbed to a 2-1 loss in the ‘Bendel’ derby.
“We are looking forward to doing well with the other events during the games.
“Team Edo is well prepared and raring to go,” said one of the team coaches at the Stephen Keshi indoor sports hall.
