Delta State duo Ngozi Okereke and Siviana Ossai clinched the gold and silver of the National Youth Games 400m girls contest at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, Delta State.
And African record holder in the women’s 400m Falilat Ogunkoya was impressed by their performances.
Okereke, clinched the gold with a time of 53.30secs, while Ossai settled for silver with 54.86seconds. Interestingly they finished first and second in the 2023 games.
“They are built for the 400m and they have a bright prospect in the years ahead,” said Ogunkoya who holds the African record with a time of 49.10secs, which she set at the Atlanta 1996 Olympics.
She urged Okereke and Ossai to focus on training and their studies so that they too can achieve global recognition like she did starting from her junior days to the Olympics where she won bronze in the 400m and silver in the women 4x400m with Fatima Yusuf, Charity Opara and Bisi Afolabi.
