Kenyan long-distance runner, Emmaculate Anyango Achol is facing a four-year ban after she tested positive for testosterone and EPO.
The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) said Anyango has now been provisionally suspended pending when her case is resolved and if she does not clear herself, she faces a long ban. Anyango-Achol is one of Kenya’s up and coming athlete, she is the second fastest woman over 10km.
The 24-year-old athlete came into world limelight when she won Discovery Kenya Cross Country Championships in 2023. She came close to breaking the world 10km record in January this year. She set the second-fastest time ever with a 28:57 finish in Valencia, which was faster than Ethiopian Yalemzerf Yehualaw’s previous world record of 29:14.
Anyango placed second behind compatriot Agnes Ngetich, who set the current world record of 28:46. They are still the only two women in history to run under 29 minutes for 10km.
