Former Chelsea Champions League winning coach Thomas Tuchel is in line to take over at Manchester United.
Reports in England say Tuchel who is out of job since leaving Bayern Munich last season, will hold talks with Manchester hierarchy Tuesday. Tuchel was of interest to United in the summer as they contemplated replacing Eric Ten Hag.
Winning the FA Cup last season saved the Dutchman’s job, but this season his stay at Old Trafford became uncertain with United winning just three of their 11 games and are 14th in the Premier League table. They have scored five goals in seven league games – only 19th-placed Southampton have managed fewer.
United are already seven points adrift of the fourth Champions League qualifying place. They have never failed to qualify for the competition in two successive seasons since re-entering it in 1993.
Pep Guardiola coach of Neighbours Manchester City may now be expecting a new level of rivalry in the Premier League.
In the past Guardiola had plenty of positive endorsements for Tuchel, offering further insight into the style of play he could offer United.
“He’s so creative with good build-up and connection, good runners and players who are good in the spaces,” the City boss said. “He went to Paris and did really well, not just winning the league but getting final of Champions League, the way they played was good and Chelsea he did a good job.”
