Libyan Football Federation president, Abdelhakim Al-Shalmani, has quit his post as his country faces international scrutiny following their failure to be good hosts to Nigeria’s Super Eagles for their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
The match billed for Tuesday has been boycotted by the Super Eagles who have since returned home.
Speaking during a meeting of the Libya Football Federation general assembly meeting Sunday Al Shalmani said he faced difficult times and do not wish to continue.
“I do not want to be part of the failure in Libyan sports,” he said.
“We faced difficulties during the previous period. I thank all members of the General Assembly, and I forgive everyone from all segments of the sports sector.
“I have a history in the International, Arab and African Federation, and no one can deny that.”
African football ruling body CAF said they would investigate the circumstances surrounding the Super Eagles’ being abandoned by their hosts three hours away from the match venue. The Nigerian players spent 15 hours without food at the airport before being evacuated by the Nigeria Football Federation Monday.
