Former Barcelona and Spain defender Gerard Pique has accused his ex-wife and Latina music star Shakira of lying about their marriage which ended in a bitter divorce in June 2022.
Shakira had accused Pique of cheating on her after spending 11 years and raising two kids together. The couple had since gone their different ways with Shakira feeling more bitter about the separation saying she sacrificed her career to take of Pique and the family. She expressed her emotions in a song ‘Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran’, which translates to ‘Women No Longer Cry.’
But Pique who has since moved on with his girlfriend, 25-year-old Clara Chia Marti, said in a CNN interview:
“In the end, the truth or what happens or occurs is not told in the way it was,” he told CNN.
“I cannot control this. The best thing is that in the end I am surrounded by my loved ones, my family, my friends, and the people who really know you. They know what you are like and what you do, and that gives me a lot of peace of mind.
“I am very happy, I have a great time, and I feel privileged. The life I have had, being able to play for the club of my life for more than twenty years, wonderful children, an incredible family, lifelong friends, those from school that I still have.”
Since retiring, Pique has become president of the Kings League – a seven-a-side football league based in Barcelona. The rules include traditional football regulations as well as alternative rules such as a tie-breaker penalty shootout and unlimited substitutions.
