Nollywood actress Debbie Shokoya said she is appalled by the poor quality of Yoruba films produced by her colleagues in Nollywood that are being played on YouTube.
Posting on her Instagram, Shokoya there is a growing public disapproval of Yoruba movies on YouTube because content creators are ignoring basic production standards.
“I am tired when I hear people say they don’t watch Yoruba movies, and sadly, I understand why,” she lamented. “Let’s be honest; it’s not their fault. We need to change this narrative.”
Shokoya further called on directors to take their roles more seriously, noting the importance of proper direction in shaping a movie’s quality.
She questioned why some directors fail to correct poorly executed acting or unnecessarily prolonged comedic scenes, urging them to step up their efforts in ensuring better performances and more quality storyline.
“We can do better,” Shokoya concluded.
