London based former Nigerian and World Wrestling Champion , Morris Atula a.k.a Golden Warrior, said the return of the National Sports Commission will boost the sports industry in Nigeria.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in a recent cabinet shake up scrapped the Sports Ministry and reconstituted the NSC following a national outcry for professionalism in the management of Nigerian sports.
Mr. Atula who is gunning for the Nigeria Wrestling Federation top position said the NSC would usher in rapid development of sports and discovery of younger talents.”
” A Big thanks to our Dear President Tinubu for bringing back the NSC,” said Atula.
“The NSC in the past, under administrators who knew what they were doing, produced great wrestlers and other sports champions.
“So it is good to have a seasoned sports administrator like Shehu Dikko at the head of the commission. Better days are here for Nigerian Sports.”
Speaking on his plans for wrestling the former Commonwealth and World Wrestling champion declared his readiness to make Nigerian Wrestlers among best in the world if voted in as Nigeria Wrestling Federation president.
“Should our dream board get elected, our plan is to take wrestling to the next level,” said Atula who is the Edo State Wrestling Association chairman.
“First of all we would have a very sound technical director and department to radically facilitate our projection of raising world champions regularly.
“We’ll do all we can to get Sports loving corporate groups and individuals to be prominent in sponsorship of Wrestling programs and provision of wrestling mats in all states of the Federation, including FCT of Abuja.
“Under my watch NWF would encourage regular zonal and inter state
wrestling championships towards discovery and nurturing of young and talented wrestlers.”
Atula added that he has the backing of veteran wrestlers in his quest to improve on the fortunes of the sport in the country.
” The right results must come if quality ex wrestlers blended with other sound individuals are elected into the next board of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation.
“Only those who know where the shoe pinches can best serve the interest of wrestling.
” I will tackle the problems facing our Wrestling and I hope that NSC will encourage veterans to be in the vanguard of sports revival in the country.”
