Two times world mixed martial arts champion, Loveth Patra Efuku is pressing ahead with her audacious plan of hosting a Celebrity Mega Fight billed for November 30 in Lagos.
It is a three-day event of entertainment in sports, music, fashion and talent hunt show. Over 500 Nigerian youths have registered to participate. Youths will showcase their talents in singing, dancing, instrumental skills, magic and whatever they have to present to sway the judges. The sports aspect of the event will have international wrestling contest, MMA combat and Boxing.
The organisers have also planned a trade fair, which will run from November 29-December 1, 2024.
“It is going to be three days of fun like never seen before,” said Efuku a deputy superintendent in the Nigerian police force.
“For me it began like a dream, and it is beginning to unfold despite the fact support from public and private concerns is not forth coming. This is a programme that I hold dearly, because it is my desire to give back to the society.
“Apart from that it would put Nigeria in a positive light we are going to have world sports stars coming to Nigeria to compete in wrestling, boxing, kicking boxing. And we need the support of all Nigerians to pull it off.
“There has not been sponsorship, but we are determined to push it through. There is a saying that if you are not stubborn with your dream, it would not come true.”
Speaking in the same vein Nigeria Boxing Board of Control president Rafiu Ladipo said Nigerians should throw their weight behind the event, because of the positive image sports brings to the country.
“Nigerians have not seen the real positive power of sports, if they had, they would respect and support sports men and women. The good image they give to Nigerians abroad is priceless and therefore we must give a solid support to whatever they are doing,”
