With the November 30th date confirmed and preparations in full speed, Nigerian elite long-distance runners are set to reenact their rivalry at the 2024 Warri Effurun Peace Marathon.
The 10km race WEPM has been a place of an attraction for the runners right from its inception in in 2015. They practically crashed into the event meant for athletes and fun runners in the Warri Effurun environ and interestingly, they were welcomed wholeheartedly by the organisers.
Speaking ahead of the 2024 race Ismael Sadjo whose winning streak was punctuated in 2022 by Emmanuel Gyan said he was looking forward to racing against his colleagues again with an aim to extend his dominance of the WEPM.
“I would be prepared and waiting for them,” said Sadjo who has stamped his presence in every marathon contest in Nigeria.
“I have always loved competing in Warri, and we all are preparing hard for the race and by God’s grace I will not surrender the title.”
Also, in the female category Patience Daylop who won her first WEPM title last year, said she was looking for to another successful out even as Ruth Abiye-David, Deborah Pam and others are eyeing the top prize.
“We are all coming to Warri to run in the race. But I am hungrier than ever to win my second title,” said Daylop.
