Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel said the club to find a reliable, calm and steady goalkeeper if they wish to finish in the top four this season.
Chelseas had has struggled to find goalkeepers like Petr and Thibaut Courtois despite spending in the last few years to boost the department. Chelsea have signed both Sanchez and Djordje Petroivic in the summer of 2023, whilst they added Filip Jorgensen and youngster Mike Penders in the window just gone.
Petrovic, who arguably outperformed Sanchez last season was sent on loan to Strasbourg, whilst Jorgensen has been limited to the cup competitions.
Speaking on his podcast ‘Obi One’ Mikel said: “A goalkeeper who’s steady, calm and reliable.”
“[Robert] Sanchez does have a couple of performances here and there, but if we are to win the Premier League or to finish in the top four, I think we need a better top goalkeeper.”
Chelsea will host Arsenal on Sunday in a game that would test their resolve to win the title or finish in the top four. Key striker and playmaker Cole Palmer is doubtful for the game, but coach Enzo Maresco is positive they can beat the Gunners.
