The Nigeria Army said the arrest of Biafra agitator Simon Ekpa by the Finland police is a boost to the fight against terror.
Simon Ekpa is currently being held by the Finnish police on charges on public incitement and terrorism. He is alleged to be the mastermind of some of the terror attacks in the Southeast.
The Chief of Defence Staff Christopher Musa expressed delight with the arrest, and he is hopeful that Simon Ekpa would be extradited to Nigeria from Finland to face charges.
“The CDS has always called for the arrest of Simon Ekpa following his deep involvement in fueling terrorism in South East Nigeria,” said Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj-Gen Edward Buba,
“We are delighted about his arrest, and glad that the international community is partnering with Nigerians in our fight against terrorism.”
Defence Headquarters had in March 2024 declared Ekpa who is factional leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), alongside 96 persons wanted for terrorism, violent extremism and secessionist threats against the country.
