A 48-year-old man Adamu Ibrahim Umaru impregnated his own 15-yea-old daughter and threatened to kill her if she speaks to anyone about their sordid affair.
The suspect a native of Zamfara State but resident at No. 27 Edem Odo Street, Calabar Cross River State defiled his daughter over a period of time starting in 2023. He allegedly took the daughter for rendezvous in a hotel.
His escapade was discovered when the aunt of the girl noticed her physiological change, she took the young girl for medical checkup and it was confirmed she was nine weeks pregnant.
Speaking on the development, Cross River police spokesperson, Nelson Okpabi, told newsmen that the suspect was arrested on Friday, November 15, based on a petition by one Aisha, the victim’s aunt.
“The personnel of the Zonal Human Rights Unit acting on a petition referred to the team for investigation, on the 15th November, 2024 apprehended Mallam Adamu Ibrahim Umaru.
The police said that the victim in her statement, alleged that her father was responsible for her pregnancy.
“The manager of the hotel in his statement also admitted that he had seen the suspect severally with the victim in the hotel booking temporary accommodation, but never knew she was his daughter,” the zonal PPRO explained.
However, the suspect denied the allegation and appealed for him to be released to attend to another urgent matter in an Abuja court.
“I am due to appear tomorrow in a court at a federal high court in Abuja over murder charges and I did not even commit what am being alleged of against my daughter,” he appealed.
The police said that the suspect would be arraigned in court at the end of the investigation in accordance with extant laws if found culpable.
