Veteran Wrestlers Association of Nigeria rising from an online meeting at the weekend has called for technocrats to form the core membership of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation.
Speaking ahead of the 2025 Sporting federations elections, VWAN said they strongly believe that having technocrats on board is a first step towards revival of wrestling in the country.
A statement signed by the Financial Secretary, Veteran Wrestlers Association of Nigeria, Philip Momoh revealed that they are queue behind the Edo state Wrestling Association chairman, Morris Atula also known as “Golden Warrior” as their dream president of the next NWF board.
“Our president, Morris Atula is a confirmed technocrat who would take our wrestling to the zenith.
” Atula is tested, trusted and have the pedigree to boost wrestling. Only technocrats and those with deep knowledge of wrestling would be needed complement his effort in repositioning Nigeria Wrestling. ,“said Momoh.
Speaking on his ambition to revive wrestling Morris Atula said he would mobilise Nigerians who can contribute in cash or in kind to life the sport. He mentioned the Controller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, K N Nandap as one of those Nigerians who have supported wrestling and wrestlers. “Those who can support in cash and kind are the people we want around us. We will provide mileage through rotational training programs and championships in different parts of the country.”, said Atula who has appealed for support in veterans ‘ determination to revive Nigeria wrestling.Atula, an ex-Nigeria, Common wealth and world wrestling champion added that the next NWF board would not compromise in training , rotational tournaments , provision of training Mats, Scholarships and other welfare packages to wrestlers in the six Geo political zones of the country .
