Ace music producer and singer Cobhams Asuquo has sympathised with the people of Edo State over their governor’s glaring incompetence, while presenting his 2025 budget to the Edo State House of Assembly during the week.
Cobhams who was writing on his Instagram social media page noted that Edo State is blessed with many intellectuals and many capable individuals who could do a better job than governor Monday Okpebholo.
In October 2024 Okpebholo was delcared winner of a highly controversial Edo State governorship elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Mr. Okpebholo struggled to read through his 2025 budget presentation ceremony, video of him stumbling through his words with shaky hands dominated the social media space in recent days.
“The Edo State Appropriation Bill of six billion… 605 billion… 76 million…
“Let me take it again. 506 billion… 605 billion… sorry… 776 billion… sorry, it’s confusing me,” the governor shuttered.
Cobhams said in his post that this display of incompetence was troulbing.
“To be clear, some of the most brilliant Nigerian minds I have encountered are from Edo State.
“So this begs the question, is it that we’re not ready to tell ourselves the truth, or that we don’t want progress as much as we claim to?
“Some choices may be foisted on us but is that to remain our lot? What does governance mean to us; all of us – the governed and the governor?
“I’m really confused this hot afternoon. This is bad. Very, very bad. There got to be a way out”.
