Former Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro has claimed that Ademola Lookman’s resurgent form was down to Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini.
Before his arrival at Atalanta Lookman had moved around several clubs trying to make his breakthrough, but that finally came when he joined Atalanta from RB Leipzig in 2022. Lookman help the club to win their first major title with his hat-trick against Bayer Leverkusen in the final of the 2024 Europa League and has continue to excel.
“I think giving Lookman the freedom to move around has allowed him to show his quality, both in terms of decision-making and execution,” Peseiro told Sportitalia.
” Of course, the club and Gasperini have provided Lookman with the environment to grow as a player in all aspects.
Lookman was named African Footballer of the Year on Tuesday.
“I think Lookman’s victory is deserved given his performances both for Atalanta, his club and for his country, Nigeria,” added the Portuguese.
Meanwhile Peseiro is still looking for work after he left the Super Eagles.
“I have received several offers from national teams and clubs, but so far there has been no agreement with any of them.
” At the moment I have some situations that could materialize, let’s see.”
