Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali on New Year day suffered the loss of his mother after losing his dad to sudden death in November.
Nwali revealed the shocking new on his X social media handle saying: “Rip mom, worst year of my life already.”
He later shed more tears on his Instagram: “It’s a very, very crazy world indeed.” He gave no details of the mother’s passing.
The 28-year-old Nwabali based in South Africa with Chippa United was in camp with the Super Eagles for their Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin Republic Cheetahs in November 2024, when he received the news of his father’s death.
He was excused from the next game in Uyo against Wasps of Rwanda.
Nwabali shot to limelight in 2023 when he was called up by former Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro to try his hands in goalkeeping division of the national team, that was lacking a brave keeper.
Nwabali justified his inclusion at the 2023 AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire where his heroics in the semifinal shootout against South Africa launched the Super Eagles into the final.
