A teacher identified as Stella Nwadigo is cooling off in police detention after she was caught on video slapping around a 3-year-old pupil left in her care.
The incident which happened at Christ-Mitots School in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State was captured by an X user as #dammiedammie35 and shared on the platform sparking an outrage. The clip showed the teacher mistreating and physically abusing the little boy identified as Abayomi Micheal.
Lagos State police spokesperson CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the development Wednesday. “The teacher has been taken into custody and is currently undergoing investigation,” he stated. “Further necessary actions will follow to ensure justice is served.”
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) condemned the assault on the toddler.
“We are pleased to inform the public that the teacher in question has been arrested, and an investigation has commenced in earnest,” it wrote in a post on its official X account.
“Indeed, institutions of learning should be safe, warm, and protective environments for all children in their care.”
