Two Catholic nuns are still missing after they were kidnapped by gunmen along Ufuma Road in the Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The two sisters, Vincentia Maria Nwankwo the Principal of Archbishop Charles Harvey Memorial Model Secondary School Ufuma and Grace Mariette Okoli a teacher at Immaculata Girls Model Secondary School Nnewi, were taken by the gunmen while returning from a vocational meeting in Ogboji on Tuesday January 7 at about 6.00pm.
Secretary-General of the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Maria Ikeotuonye, confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday asking members of the public to join them in prayer for the safe return of the two nuns.
“A police-led joint operation is ongoing to secure the release of the two Catholic nuns allegedly kidnapped along Ufuma Road, Orumba North Local Government,” said Anambra State Police Command spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga.
