Former Super Eagles stars Yakubu Aiyegbeni and Victor Anichebe have hailed the return of David Moyes as coach of Everton after Sean Dyche was given the boot.
Aiyegbeni and Anichebe during their days played under Moyes who left the club after 11 years to coach Manchester United following the exit of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013.
Aiyegbeni fondly called the “Yak” during his days spent four successful seasons at Goodison Park, scoring 33 goals and providing 12 assists in 107 appearances across all competitions. He applauded the appointment with “clapping hands and blue heart emoji.”
Victor Anichebe, who rose through Everton’s youth ranks before establishing himself in the first team, scoring 26 goals and providing 18 assists in 168 matches, offered a more detailed reaction.
In a post on Instagram, Anichebe expressed optimism about Moyes’ return while acknowledging the challenges ahead.
“Stability and values of what it means to play for Everton is what the club needs now. Welcome back gaffer. Club has changed massively so it won’t be easy support is needed. Good luck gaffer,” Anichebe wrote.
Other Nigerians who played for Everton include Joseph Yobo and Daniel Amokachi.
