Super Eagles coach Eric Sekou Chelle said at his unveiling Monday in Abuja that his main priority will be to make the national team a goal scoring side.
He noted that he has it in the back of his mind the high expectations from Nigerians and would work hard to see that the Super Eagles surpass those expectations.
“Football is about scoring goals, so I favour an attacking style,” said Eric Chelle.
“I know the expectations of Nigerians and I will settle down and work diligently with assistants towards the goal of qualifying the Super Eagles to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.”
He added that it was a huge opportunity to be the coach of the Super Eagles: “Nigeria has a great history, from Christian Chukwu, (Victor) Ikpeba, (Daniel) Amokachi. When I was young, Nigeria was my favourite team.
“Coaching the Super Eagles of Nigeria is an amazing job; I do not take this appointment for granted. I am elated and will do my utmost best”, the coach said.
Nigeria Football Federation president Ibrahim Musa Gusau said Eric Chelle’s appointment was a step in the right director.
“Éric represents the innovation and strategic vision we need to steer the Super Eagles to greater heights. We trust his ability to inspire success as we tackle the remainder of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and other challenges ahead.”
He called on Nigerians fans to positively support the team and the coach in Nigeria’s quest to qualify for the FIFA World Cup. The Super Eagles will tackle Rwanda and Zimbabwe in March, a win in both games will launch the team back into reckoning.
Meanwhile Eric Chelle will show Nigeria what he can do when the Super Eagles B team participate in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) next month. The NFF said he would be in charge of the team.
