The Lagos State House of Assembly Monday voted to remove long standing speaker Mudashiru Obasa, following allegations of financial misconducts levelled against him.
Deputy Speaker Hon Mojisola Meranda was elected as his replacement and the deputy Chief Whip Fatai Mojeed, elected as the new Deputy Speaker.
Obasa has been accused of spending N17 billion on a gate to the assembly complex, which critics argue is excessive and fraudulent. There have also been allegations of mishandling constituency funds and projects.
In December 2024 pettitions were written against him urging the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to investigate Obasa over the allegations of financial misconduct, breach of public trust, and abuse of office.
He was also reported to be working at cross purposes with Lagos State governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
