.Zimbabwe coach Michael Nees believes the Super Eagles remain a top contender in the African World Cup qualifiers despite being second from the bottom in the group C table.
The Super Eagles will play Rwanda and Zimbabwe in must win games in March and according to Nees who took over the Zimbabwean side in September 2024, the Super Eagles will be out to revive their campaign.
“In our group Nigeria is a wounded lion and therefore very dangerous. Their potential far exceeds their current position in the group. When you look at African footballers, Nigeria remains one of the top teams,” Nees told CAFonline.
However, the German-born coach is optimistic they can also win their games and improve on their standing.
“We have a challenge, and we take it step by step and match by match, and actually we must take it training to training, day by day. I think we’ll be well advised to approach it that way, because there’s so many variables in football.”
The Super Eagles are on three points from four matches drawing three games and losing to Benin Republic who have seven points and are behind South Africa and Rwanda who also have seven points. Zimbabwean have lost two and drawn two games one against Nigeria in Harare.
