Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti plans to step down from the role at the end of the season.
Reports in Spain by Onda Cero Monday said the highly decorated Italian-born tactician feels that his cycle at the Blancos has come to a conclusion despite his contract expiring in 2026.
Though Real Madrid are topping the LaLiga with two points above Atletico Madrid and seven points above Barcelona, Anceloti has come under pressure this season. He was comprehensively beaten in both Clasico encounters with Barcelona this term and Real Madrid are sweating to qualify in the Champions League. They sit 20th in the table, with three wins and three defeats with matches against Red Bull Salzburg and Brest to come.
“Even if the season ends with title and the club wants him to honour his contract, he wants to close his time with Real Madrid this summer,” says the reports.
“Ancelotti enjoys every day at the club to the full. He returned excited and has found complete happiness in the Spanish capital, but he also feels that this second stint in the Chamartin dugout will end in the summer whatever happens.
“He is not thinking about retirement, but rather about continuing to coach in another country.”
Ancelotti, 65, returned to the Real Madrid in 2021 for a second stint. He won three Champions League trophies Los Blancos and two Spanish La Liga titles. He was linked with the Brazil national team in 2023.
