A truck has crushed to death eight agents of the Anambra State Special Anti-Tout Squad after a head-on collision with the bus the agents were travelling in.
The incident occurred along the Onitsha-Owerri Road near Oba Onitsha Friday when the truck loaded with sand collided with the operational vehicle of the Anti-Tout squad as it emerged from an intersection.
According to eyewitness account the Anti-tout squad’s vehicle a Toyota HiAce bus emerged from an adjourning road on high speed and rammed into the tipper that was coming from the other end of the road.
“The branded Toyota vehicle had about eight young men on board was and traveling at full speed before ramming into the tipper fully loaded with sand,” the witness who identified herself as Chinwe told the Punch.
“The operatives were on their routine stop-and-search operations when they rammed into the tipper which was coming out from the other end of the road.
“After the accident happened, the occupants of the vehicle were trapped, and passers-by were the ones bringing out their bodies, and more than four lifeless bodies littered the road while those injured were rushed to the hospital.
“The incident has caused panic on the road as motorists and residents battled in the traffic caused by the situation.”
