Beyoncé waited for 15 years to win the Album of the Year, the ultimate prize of the Grammy Awards and she crossed the boundaries of genres to achieve the feat with “Cowboy Carter.”
She is the fourth black woman to the win the Album of the Year Grammy Awards following in the footsteps of Natalie Cole, Whitney Houston and Lauryn Hill with “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” 26 years ago.
“I will never forget standing here almost exactly 15 years ago. It’s been many years,” Beyonce said after Taylor Swift presented her the award at the Crypto.com arena in LA.
“I wasn’t really expecting this… thanks to all the incredible country artists. Sometimes genre is a codeword to keep us in our place as artists and I just want to encourage people to do what they’re passionate about
The recognition came five months after she was snubbed at the Country Music Awards – even after she became the first black woman to have a number one hit on the Hot Country Songs chart, with Texas Hold ‘Em.
