Three men accused of murdering a former employee of the Central Bank of Nigeria Kehinde Fatinoye, his wife and son have been sentenced to death.
An Ogun State High Court sitting in Abeokuta Monday handed down the sentence to the accused persons who on the New Year eve of January 2023 killed Kehinde, Bukola Fatinoye, and their son, Oreoluwa.
The main suspect of the murder was their driver Adekanbi Lekan connived with two others Odetola Ahmed and Adeniyi Waheed to commit the crime in a robbery incident that went wrong.
Adekanbi had trailed the couple who attended the 2022/2023 crossover service at the Christ Anglican Church Iporo-Ake, Abeokuta, Ogun State to their residence in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, at about 1:30 am. After they were robbed, they murdered, and their house set ablaze to make it look like a fire accident.
Then after they took the couple’s son Oreoluwu and their adopted son Felix, tied them with ropes and threw them into a river, but Felix survived the ordeal and told the whole story. The suspects were rounded up by the police were arraigned on a 24-count charge relating to conspiracy to commit armed robbery, armed robbery, conspiracy to murder, murder and arson.
Delivering judgement, the presiding judge Justice Basirat Adebowale said the prosecution proved its case against the tree suspects and found them guilty of murder.
“The sentence of this court on Adekambi Lekan in respect of count II is that you be hanged by neck until you’re dead or by lethal injection.
“May God have mercy on your soul,” the court held.
